The 1975 Le Mans 24-hour race delivered a surprise victory for a team far from the pre-race favorites. The striking Gulf Oil–liveried Mirage GR8, driven by Jacky Ickx and Derek Bell, crossed the line one lap ahead of the Ligier. This triumph marked the third and final Le Mans win for a Gulf-liveried car, and the very first of Derek Bell’s remarkable five victories at the legendary event. For Ickx, it was his third of six career wins, cementing this car’s place as a launchpad for two of the most iconic Le Mans drivers in history.
